The “Lord of the Rings” theme song was voted by UK Classic FM listeners as the UK’s favorite soundtrack, ahead of such classics as Schindler’s List and Star Wars.
British Classic FM conducted a survey among its listeners. More than ten thousand people voted, and as a result, the Lord of the Rings soundtrack became the best of all time. According to the Daily Mail, composer Howard Shore’s score surpassed “Schindler’s List” in second place and “Star Wars” in third place.
Radio presenter Jonathan Ross said he was delighted that Howard Shore’s music received so much love and won first place in the Classical FM Music Hall of Fame in Film, an incredible celebration of the greatest soundtracks in history. Reacting to the news, Shore said:
Thanks to all Classic FM listeners. I’m so glad I can bring you closer to JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth.
The first part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy premiered in 2001 and won an Academy Award for Visual Effects, Makeup, Cinematography and Music for Original Score.
