Also, it seems like gas mileage is a big win. With a potential mileage rate of 35 MPG over the the highway, it’s no wonder the Impala is quite popular. Plus, drivers love the way it handles and have you seen the new infotainment system? To adapt to snow, most drivers simply smack on snow tires or chains, and try to park inside whenever possible. In summary, sometimes, the best car for a state is not really the best car for a state, and that’s what makes it the best car for a state. At least that’s how Cheeseheads feel!

48. West Virginia: Ford Focus

This is Ford‘s dirty little secret, even though they aren’t as popular in the US (approximately 1.1 million sell worldwide). However, West Virginia can vouch for the vehicle with its solid performance, lower price point and dependability. In fact, in past years the Ford Focus has unseated solid contenders like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic in terms of global sales. And you thought West Virginia would always be known for that silly junkyard reality show. Sometimes it takes an American auto manufacturer to bring things into— focus (just go with it already).

Is it the compact design Washingtonians love so much? Maybe it’s the new hatchback option. Who know. All we really know is the state of Washington is in love with the Honda Civic. A few years ago, the Civic had a few safety challenges when Japan smeared their untarnished reputation over faulty airbags (potentially fatal). However, they have since rebounded and are doing a phenomenal job coming back. Sure, you might go through a few sets of wiper blades and snow tires. yet, for safety and reliability, the Honda Civic is hard to beat on a snowy, or er–rainy day.

Honda is always a solid performer, no matter the driving conditions. Youtuber FlyinGato posted a video to his account of an Accord driving in more than a foot of snow! Legacies are known for having a roomy cabin size capable of fitting 5 regular or holiday sized folk inside. Also, their trademark slower acceleration is perfect for keeping Vermont residents safe on slippery winter roads.

Did we mention earlier U.S. News and World Report states the Honada Accord is ranked #4 in its class (mid-size sedans)? It was also the winner for best family car (perfect for a state known for sister wives and massive amounts of offspring). Even better, it was a finalist for best car for the money. No wonder Utah loves this car! Its responsive handling and more energetic engine make it the perfect desert twists and turns. Epic gas mileage seals the deal. You can almost hear Micheal Bolton crooning its praises if you listen close enough.

Texans were in love with the Altima before 2019 saw the addition of all wheel drive. If bigger is better in Texas, the selling point for the Altima is the roomy trunk (you can fit three bodies in there). Throw in a 2.5 liter engine with an average 31 mpg rating and you have a recipe for Texas love. However, the coolest feature has to be the CVT (continuously variable transmission). It mimics shift points of traditional transmission models, a feature sure to thrill any Texan looking for authenticity and quality!

42. Tennessee: Nissan Altima

Rocky Top residents love the Nissan Altima. And those driving the latest model make owners of the former even more jealous. Why? Well, for starters the new v6 engine replaces the old 4 cylinder turbo, which was a massive improvement in and of itself. Yet, its the interior that really gets green eyes flashing. Apple Carplay and Android Play come standard in base models (not so with the Camry or Accord), as well as a 7 inch dash display, 4 USB charging ports and a powered driver’s seat. Even worse, the state government is trying to turn a portion of I-95 into a toll road as you enter the state from Georgia. With potholes that are legendary, South Carolina residents need a vehicle with solid performance and exceptional brakes. And while it is not as quiet as other sedans in its class, drivers like the sporty way it handles and the abundance of safety features Honda is known for. 35. Ohio: Honda Civic

This year (2019), the Detroit News reported Honda is scaling back production of its popular Civic and Accord because consumer demand is shifting to SUVs again. However, don’t tell that to Buckeye fans. Ohio folk love the Honda Civic! In fact, many people across the US do. 34. North Dakota: Chevrolet Impala

Do you think North Carolina folk are familiar with the Honda Accord design story? For 2018, they completely released a video recounting the history of the Accord and what made it so popular. For one, Honda always worked to meet the high expectations of consumers. To do this, they stopped relying on the language and form of traditional sedans. In a state known for Breaking Bad and fictional Chicken restaurants (Pollo Loco) it’s good to see the state’s population has more sense than the cast of characters from Breaking Bad. Seems like the price hikes of 2018 did not deter the people of New Mexico. And it wasn’t like Honda just raised prices once. Rewind the clock to 2018 and remember there were two price hikes. The first jump was right around $510. The second took that number to more than $1,300. Still though, it’s not enough to go full blown Walter White. Any decent job should give you what you need to purchase either the 4 door sedan or hatchback model.

The popularity here should be no surprise. New Jersey is home to a USA Honda plant. The manufacturing facility is in Mount Laurel. In addition to Honda vehicles, they also manufacture Acura products. So members of the Garden State can enjoy the best of both worlds, but primarily, they love the Accord. And why not? This little car has come a long way. The first one produced had a whopping 68 horsepower (with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine). Also, we think of the hatchback as something new, but originally the Accord was only available as a hatchback. Today, there are more than 10.5 million scattered across the United States.

We wonder how many LLC shell company Camrys there are in Nevada? After all, the state is famous for four things, Vegas, the mob, the grand canyon and tax free corporate entities. And with those entities come corporate cars, so it makes sense that the Camry would be employed for more than a few Bugsy Malone type operations. Even better, the 2018 Camry (gas only variant) is equipped with the same 8 speed shifter found in the Highlander, Sienna and some Lexus models as a standard feature. With all of the desert roads and highways crisscrossing Nevada, it’s not surprising to find the Camry as a favorite.

27. Nebraska: Chevrolet Impala

Meanwhile, Nebraska folk love the Impala just as much as North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Home to Warren Buffet, it’s not really surprising that the state loves such a reliable, efficient car. Other things you might not know about Nebraska include the following: It is the birthplace of Kool-Aid, they have a 6 foot statue honoring Chef Boyardee and replica of Stonehenge called Carhenge (just north of Alliance) made up of 38 old cars. Incidentally, none of them are Impalas. Nebraskans prefer to drive them instead!

26. Montana: Ford Explorer

So the Ford Explorer has both a 2.3 liter or 3.5 liter Eco-Boost engine. The former churns out 280 horsepower, impressive for a 4 cylinder, or 365 horsepower from the v6 model. The new 202 Explorer will see a move towards RWD. Some may question the reason behind this, but the move yields an extra 6 inches of stretch for the wheelbase. Towing capacity has been improved by 66% and has more cargo space than previous models. Considered by many to be the elder statesman of SUVs, the Explorer continues to be reliable, and that’s just what the peopel of MOntana love about it!

25. Missouri: Chevrolet Impala

The Show Me State leans towards the Impala too! Seems like a car that ranks #4 according to U.S. News and World report in the large car category is quite popular in many states. Lending to its wild popularity are the good safety ratings given by the IIHS. That’s all it takes to get 9 states to jump all over this car. However, be forewarned, the Impala does not get stellar reviews if you do a lot of city driving. Yet, for a solid cruise around the Lake of the Ozarks, the Missourians can’t get enough!

24. Mississippi: Nissan Altima

Here was see the Altima make a showing again in a state known for Elvis and B.B. King. And while we have never thought of the Nissan Altima as bluesy or rock and roll, it could be a bit of both. The new infotainment system features premium Bose speakers. Oh yeah, and there are 9 of them cleverly dispersed throughout the cabin to give maximum listening pleasure. Throw in dual climate AC controls along with heated seats and you have a vehicle to keep up with Mississippi humidity no matter whether you are in Tupelo or Itta Bena.

23. Minnesota: Chevrolet Impala

Remember those 9 states we mentioned that love the Chevrolet Impala? Well, add Minnesota to the list! The home of Garrison Keillor, the Mall of America and the Minnesota Vikings also joins the list as a member of the Chevrolet Impala fan club. Again, you have to remember how solid the Impala is in cold weather. So where it lacks in features like 4 wheel drive or 8 cylinder monster engines, it excels as a faithful, dependable vehicle. Still, the 3.5 liter v6 can crank out 305 horsepower so she is certainly no flyweight!

22. Michigan: Chevrolet Malibu

What was once a trim level for the Chevrolet Chevelle morphed into its own vehicle in 1978. So do Michigan residents love it for this fact or something else? After all, the Malibu became an instant classic in 1964 when it sold more than 200,000 right out of the gate. In addition, the Malibu has won more than 20 NASCAR titles since its production debut. Yet, we think Michigan residents love the car because it now offers a teen driver feature. Essentially, this means parents can set a pin and to control max audio levels, speed limit warnings and other monitor worthy elements (available in 2016 models on). Sorry kids, that’s the breaks!

21. Massachusetts: Honda Accord

Car and Driver has named the Accord as one of the most popular cars in America 27 times. That’s not too shabby! It’s also not surprising that the people of Massachusetts love it also. Here’s a fun fact too. Remember the guy who drove his Accord to more than a million miles? He was rewarded in 2012 with a parade and a New Accord from Honda. Not as reminiscent as the first Thanksgiving, but pretty dang close. Since its debut, the Accord continues to be one of the most beloved and reliable vehicles. For instance, the 2014 hybrid version was the first vehicle to meet the LEV3/SULEV20 emission standards, the strictest in the United States.

20. Maryland: Honda Accord

What? Maryland loves the Accord too? All sales point to yes. After all, what would you expect from an auto manufacturer who developed the first foreign import model to become a top seller in the US? The end result means a full 70% of the power can be transferred to the rear wheels, as well as each side! So if you see people drifting around those winding roads in Maine, you can thank to Ford Focus!

18. Louisiana: Nissan Altima

Folks in Louisiana can laissez les bon temps rouler, literally, in their Altimas. Yep, seems like Cajuns and Creoles everywhere rely on the Nissan Altima to move them around when need be. Plus, the Altima helps people keep their lives simple. In 2015, the dashboard was reconfigured so all information could be fund in one place. Drivers love it because it keeps them from looking all over the place for gauges and warning lights. Also, the cabin was revamped in 2014 to give more room.

17. Kentucky: Toyota Camry

Leave it to the Bluegrass state to lean toward something as dependable and reliable as the Toyota Camry. Or, maybe its the moniker itself that makes the car’s history as rich as the Kentucky Derby. Camry comes from an Anglicized version of the Japanese name “Kanmuri.’ It means crown and is consistent with Toyota’s move to name their prominent vehicles after some sort of crown (one model sold overseas is actually called the Crown. We aren’t worthy enough to have them imported stateside). Of course, we think the name fits well with titles like Triple Crown, Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby. Excuse us now please, it’s time for a Mint Julep.

16. Kansas: Ford Focus

Kansans love the Ford Foucs, although driving one today may seem like you aren’t in Kansas anymore. If your memory is a bit foggy, rewind the clock back to 2016. Ford launched the Focus with a new Powershift transmission. However, they made the mistake of leading the customer base to think the transmission was automatic, rather than a manual transmission that is shifted automatically. Complaints started pouring in because customers thought something was wrong with their vehicles. Talk about a PR nightmare. Luckily, Ford was able to put the Wicked Witch rumors to rest.

15. Iowa: Chevrolet Impala

When your state is home to the most crooked street in the world according to Ripley’s Believe it or Not, you need a car that can handle it. So Iowans turn to the Chevy Impala when they need help driving down Snake Alley in the quaint little town of Burlington. Not bad for a vehicle that was originally intended to be a top of the line Chevy Bel Air. Yet, a 1959 redesign and radical body style changed everything. Today, you can find Impala’s on just about any golf course in Iowa. They happen to have more golf courses per capita than any other state!

14. Indiana: Chevrolet Malibu

Midwesterners love their Chevy vehicles and Indiana is no different. Travel across the state and you will notice the Chevy Malibu everywhere. Of course, most of them are front wheel drive today. What, you didn’t know the Malibu used to be a rear wheel drive classic? Yep, right up until 1997. That’s the year GM switched it over from rear wheel drive intermediate to front wheel drive. It has remained so ever since. There have been other changes though since the switch. For instance, hybrid models hit the scene in 2008 and Chevy has really placed a marketing emphasis on their infotainment systems.

You will be hard pressed to drive down in street in Chicago and not find a Camry either driving or parked somewhere nearby. In fact, every year, hundreds of thousands are sold in the US. When the Camry first made its debut in 1983, it quickly spread worldwide. Before that, it was only sold in Japan (1982). And it seems like the people of Illinois love the Camry for the same reason we all do. You can always expect value, solid engineering and impeccable craftsmanship. Oh yeah, and don’t forget the incredible 8 speed automatic transmission (new for 2018 models on) that provides out of this world power and control!

12. Idaho: Honda Civic

Can you blame Idaho for not falling in love with the Honda Civic? Newer models fro m2016 on have a lot to crow about. For instance, you can lower all windows and the sunroof by hitting the key fob twice and holding it. To raise them, simply separate the fob from the key, insert the key into the door , turn twice and hold. Also, the gas tank is now cable less. All owners have to do is tap the gas tank cover to open it up. However, if your car is locked, rest assured, the cover won’t open. Its little features like these that make the Civic so popular in the US.

11. Hawaii: Toyota Corolla

People living in the Aloha state happen to love one of the world’s most favorite car. The Corolla consistently ranks as one of the top cars in the world, and for good reason. For starters, Corollas get insane fuel economy, often beating the the 40mpg marker. Second, Toyota works hard to make sure the prices is competitive. Providing value is always important to the consumer. Throw in great resale value, safety and reliability to round out the appeal. It’s enough to make any skeptic a believer. You certainly won’t have any problems getting to the local Hawaiian breakfast dive for pancakes and Spam!

10. Georgia: Honda Accord

No matter how many innovations the Accord undergoes, it performs like a champ. that’s what Georgia folk love about it. However, the 10th generation Accord made some noteworthy changes (just like UGA did with their fixture of a coach. Too soon?). To begin with, Honda did away with the v6 and opted for a turbo charged I4. the 1.5 liter wonder churns out 192 horsepower along with 192 ft-lb of torque. But what we like most is the 2.0 liter engine comes with a 10 speed automatic. Yep, looks like the 10 speed is the new 9 speed. We can’t speak for the UGA bulldogs though. Only time will tell how well their change will work.

9. Florida: Toyota Corolla

The Sunshine state loves the Toyota Corolla too. Part of this reason could be Florida consistently ranks as one of the states with the highest car insurance rates. Michigan usually comes in number one, but Florida is on the list for the same reason. Both of these states us a no fault insurance system. As such, more insurance is required to insure your vehicle. It makes sense that a vehicle with one of the highest safety and performance ratings is the favorite among residents who love to soak up the sun. The Florida state motto should be, “The Corolla, it’s not just for snowbirds.”

8. Delaware: Honda Accord

So it turns out the first state to ratify the United States Constitution is not the first state to love the Honda Accord. We have seen MANY other states on this list as well. However, few of them have a coastline that stretches 28 miles. When that’s the case, you need a car with superior handling and great safety features. This is helpful when traversing such a crowded state. You may be surprised to know Dela ware holds a paradoxical distinction. They are the 45th most populous state, while simultaneously being the 6th most densely populated state. Delaware’s total area is only 1,928 miles.

Perhaps Connecticut loves the Accord for the new body style? In 2018 Honda decided to revamp the current design and go with something more along the lines of a fast back body style. While it may not look like a Mustang, it does perform like a work horse. the latter is much more preferable to people who need a sure start on a cold winter morning. Snow shows up like an unwanted holiday guest in Connecticut. And when it does, you need something like a six cylinder Accord with an Atkinson Hybrid engine to handle it!

Colorado and their love of the Honda Accord makes sense. The new Hybrid engines (two electrical paired with a traditional gas engine) were not a Honda after thought. The batteries were placed underneath the trunk so as not to eat up precious space, and the engine configuration generates 212 horsepower with gas mileage numbers well over 40 in each category. To say this car is green is an understatement, just like saying Colorado is green would be the same thing. Colorado is so green right now. If you haven’t been lately, you should. Buy something green while you are there… like a Honda Accord.

5. California: Honda Civic

Californians favor the Civic which is odd to us. In a state known for top down cruising weather, the Civic reigns supreme. Seems like there is a reason Honda makes 14 million combustion engines every year. They have to keep up with demand! Plus, they have given us so much when it comes to the automobile. For instance, did you know the world’s first four wheel drive car was the Honda Prelude? Toss that out at your next LA cocktail party and impress your friends.

4. Arkansas: Nissan Altima

Razorbacks love the Altima. It’s the state’s most popular car. Of course, the Nissan Altima is also one of the most popular used cars in the United States so it makes you wonder about the good people of Arkansas.
