Drinking sugary soft drinks is part of our eating habits and is not necessarily good for our health. Here are the ones that are richest in sugar.
Sugary drinks are dangerous to our health. Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Red Bull, they have a harmful effect with their high doses of sugar.
Pepsi
A 33 ml can of Pepsi contains approximately 35 grams of sugar and 15 milligrams of sodium. This dose corresponds to seven cubes of sugar. And 70% of the daily sugar intake recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Coca Cola
Like Pepsi, Coca-Cola contains 35 grams of sugar. 2.8 billion cans are sold worldwide every day. “Each additional glass of sugary drink per day is associated with about 200 grams of weight gain per year,” says ANSES. Regular consumption increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease by 20% compared to no or exclusive consumption.
Red Bull
A 25-cl can of Red Bull contains 27.5 grams of sugar, or 5.5 sugars, slightly less than Pepsi and Coca-Cola. Red Bull’s problem isn’t necessarily the amount of sugar, but heart-damaging substances such as taurine and caffeine, amino acids that can lead to physical and brain hyperactivity.
Schweppes Indian Tonic
Surprising, but ultimately not so shocking. A 33 ml can of Schweppes Indian Tonic contains 28.7 grams of sugar, or 5.7 sugars. Taking a can of Schweppes instead of a can of Coca-Cola is not necessarily such a good choice. The Japanese group Suntory, which owns Schweppes, has decided not to add aspartame to their drinks, but sucralose, an artificial sweetener that contains no calories but is considered carcinogenic.
7up
For 7Up, the same observations as for other soft drinks with 34.3 grams of sugar, or 6.9 pieces. But the advantage of 7up is that it is caffeine-free, which is a good thing, since caffeine is a substance that reduces the absorption of calcium.
