The Health Department reported this Tuesday seven new deaths from COVID-19 which raised the total accumulated in this line to 4,317 since the emergency began on the island.
The agency detailed in a tweet that one of the deceased was not vaccinated, four had received only two doses of the drug and two had completed their vaccination cycle (including booster doses).
The seven deceased were between 41 and 90 years old, according to the noon data update. One of the deaths is dated March 11, while the remaining seven occurred between May 17 and 23.
The statistics of Health BioPortal establish that so far this May, 99 deaths have been reported as a result of the coronavirusmost of them corresponding to the age group of 80 years or more.
Since the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA, in English) authorized the use of vaccines against COVID-19, the scientific and medical community affirmed that the drug did not prevent infection with the virus, but it did reduce the chances of suffering from severe symptoms and death.
The average number of deaths of unvaccinated people per 100,000 -in a period of 30 days- is 4, out of a population of 506,108. In the case of vaccinated (with two doses) it is 4, out of a population of 1,190,702; and in terms of those vaccinated with booster doses, it is 3, also, for a population of 1,496,884.
The population totals in each line, according to Health, change as people get vaccinated, reach the time eligible to receive the booster, or as the number of people who receive the booster increases.

Overall, in the last 30 days: 25 deaths in unvaccinated people, 53 deaths in vaccinated people, and 49 deaths in booster vaccinated people have been reported.
On the other hand, Health reported that the total number of patients hospitalized for the virus rose to 376a number that is broken down into 320 adults and 56 pediatrics.
Among the adults, 40 are confined in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 of them connected to a ventilator. In addition, five pediatric cases are in intensive care, one of which requires ventilator assistance.
By way of context on the rise in confined patients, As of this same date in March, there were 54 adults hospitalized for COVID-19.
On the other hand, the Health BioPortal showed at noon that the virus positivity rate is at 28.68%.
The average number of confirmed cases -in a period of seven days- was placed at 1,038, while the number of probable cases is 2,735.
The percentage of the eligible population aged 5 years or older vaccinated with at least one dose is 95.5%, with no significant changes for more than one month. Over 2.6 million people have completed the series of doses. In addition, only 60.8% of the eligible population over 12 years of age have the booster dose, which represents 1,496,884 people.
