GearboxEntertainment continues to grow: it publishes third-party games, buys studios, and has nine high-budget titles in development. This last piece of information has been given by Embracer Group, the Swedish conglomerate that bought the creators of Borderlands (the third part is free on the Epic Games Store, by the way) and Brothers in Arms, in your latest financial report. Although we know of some of those nine AAA titles, most have not been announced.
Gearbox is made up of two branches: Gearbox Publishing (with two offices in the United States and one in Amsterdam), responsible for publishing independent third-party games such as Risk of Rain 2 Y Have a Nice Death; and their studies Gearbox Software, Gearbox Studio Quebec, Gearbox Studio Montral, Cryptic Studios and the newly acquired Lost Boys Interactive (a group of more than 220 workers who supported the development of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands).
What games are they? home world 3, Tales from the Borderlands 2…
In the Embracer Group letter you can read: “Gearbox continues to scale the organization to meet its ambitious growth plansand there are currently nine AAA games in development.” What are those big budget titles? One could be the sequel to Tales from the Borderlands, announced for this year and that we will see in the summer (the Summer Game Fest 2022 begins on June 9). From IGN remember another if you take into account the games published that are not developed by Gearbox: home world 3.
Other than those two, the rest of the games released by Gearbox Entertainment don’t fit the AAA description: Hyper Light Breaker, Relic Hunters Legends, Have a Nice Death Y Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom. The last high-budget title launched by the company was the aforementioned Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandswhich according to Embracer Group has been “one of the best openings of an intellectual property in the history of [la editora] 2K” and has been well received by “consumers and critics”.
