Garbage Truck Hits Girder, Triggers Weeks-long I-10 Ramp Shutdown in New Orleans

The westbound Interstate 10 ramp from Carrollton and the off-ramp to Airline remain closed due to damage from an overturned garbage truck.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the Carrollton-to-westbound I-10 ramp will be closed for at least a week.

Meanwhile, the I-10 ramp to Airline will be closed for at least a month and possibly longer.

Officials reported “structural damage” after a garbage truck with a container on top collided with an above girder. WDSU was informed that the truck was deflected and subsequently slammed into a bridge column.

According to DOTD, the garbage truck cannot be moved until industrial jacks and scaffolding are installed.

Drivers should prepare alternative routes and anticipate delays in the region.
