The accident occurred in Melanchthon, Ontario, Canada. The truck crashed into 7 vehicles, including the car of the former sportsman.
Paul died in the collision, but his one-year-old son, who was in the same car, survived.
Paul won a silver medal in ice dancing at the 2010 World Junior Championships where he competed with his partner Mitchell Islam, whom he married in 2021.
Finishing 18th at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Paul ended his active career in 2016.
