The early retirement of health professionals such as doctors or nurses for reasons of drudgery start to take as a posibility that could materialize in the short or medium term. And it is that as you have been able to know Medical Writingwithin the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS) on October 7, there were autonomous communities that added this possibility in the debate to establish solutions to the lack of professionals in Spanish health.

It was during the debate on the expected mass retirement of family doctors when this question was introduced when commenting that to this it was necessary “to add that 30,000 nursing professionals could apply for early retirement due to loss of skills with age”.

At the meeting between the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities, the concern of the health advisors was manifest regarding the urgency of obtaining sufficient relief to maintain decent accessibility to the National Health System. In fact, and as this newspaper already advanced, measures such as the Galician initiative to give fixed position without opposition to rural family doctors in exchange for a certain number of PAC guards they will be taken to the CISNS to try to give them a national application.

A series of autonomous demands that, according to the information to which this newspaper has had access, moved Minister Carolina Darias to make a summary of the steps taken to date in terms of Human Resources. “A lot of progress has been made, but you have to make more effort so that the autonomous communities offer all the places that are accredited, especially the deficit ones”, the minister clarified.

Darias also wanted to specify that, in terms of retirement, “It will be necessary to assess what measures are feasible”. “The health situation continues, but there are other conditions to take into account; we must value it and continue advancing, and empower the Human Resources Commission and the working group”, added the head of the Ministry of Health.

Early retirement in health: with a budget

The figure provided in anticipation of early retirement of 30,000 nurses exposed in the aforementioned Interterritorial Council coincides with the total of these professionals who since last June have addressed the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, to claim that the Government makes it possible for them to retire early, if they so choose. A request that, according to their claims, is due to the painful and dangerous working conditions they suffer for more than 40 years negatively affect both their health and the care and attention they provide to more than 47 million people.

In this sense, the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, explained in declarations to Medical Writing that the items destined to reinforce the pension policy in the General State Budgets (PGE) of 2023 It is expected that they will be sufficient to cover the implementation of early and partial retirement among the professionals of the National Health System (SNS) if it finally materializes. The head of public accounts stressed that the new injection of 2,957 million in the Reserve Fund would make it possible to cover a decision of this magnitude.

Although it may contain statements, data or notes from health institutions or professionals, the information contained in Medical Writing is edited and prepared by journalists. We recommend the reader that any questions related to health be consulted with a health professional.
