Former President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump said he could face up to a hundred years in prison. This was announced by Trump after he was charged with many charges.
Reported HillOn Thursday (03/08/2023), Trump, speaking to his supporters, said he could face up to 561 years in prison. Trump said the US Department of Justice (DOJ) accused him of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 US election.
“Because Crooked Joe’s corrupt DOJ has again illegally PUNISHED me, reports suggest I could now face a total of 561 years in prison for leftist witch hunts,” Trump said in an email to his fundraising supporters.
“Crooked Joe” is Trump’s nickname for current U.S. President Joe Biden.
Trump faces four charges in investigating the events of January 6, 2021 and other attempts to maintain power after losing to Biden in the 2020 US presidential election. Trump was charged by Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Smith has also previously pressed charges against Trump for alleged mishandling of classified government documents. Trump will also stand trial in New York on charges of paying money to porn stars ahead of the election.
Trump, in his comments, called Smith “crazy” and accused him of making “other trumped-up charges” to “interfere in the presidential election.” Trump is currently campaigning for the presidency in the 2024 election.
“Why didn’t they do this 2.5 years ago? Why did you wait so long?” Trump asked in a statement via Truth Social.
“Because they want to put it at the center of my campaign,” he said.
Trump has repeatedly called the investigation against him a political “witch hunt” by the US Department of Justice.
