Disney CEO Bob Chapek has announced that his company is preparing to design a virtual reality world created by science fiction writers, collects The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Walt Disney Company has a long history of pioneering the use of technology to enhance the entertainment experience,” said Chapek during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call. “To date, our efforts are merely a prologue to a time when we can connect the physical and digital worlds even more closely, which will allow for limitless storytelling in our own Disney metaverse, “he added.
In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday after the conference, the executive said he saw the metaverse as an extension of the Disney + streaming service through a “three-dimensional canvas” for new types of storytelling, which could include characters like Mickey Mouse, the iron Man or Snow White.
After Mark Zuckerberg announced the future creation of the Meta metaverse, Microsoft revealed that he is working on creating another similar initiative, although more oriented to the labor concept.
