DACO fines 10 solar panel companies for not having a license

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) announced today that imposed fines of $ 5,000 on 10 companies for providing installation and maintenance services for solar panel systems, without having the license required by law to offer such services.

The 10 companies sanctioned for not having a contractor’s license:

1. Omar Collazo Class / Manage Energy Solutions Mes Corp

2. Yarimar Collazo Class / Manage Energy Solutions Corp

3. Solar Roots, LLC.

4.Caribbean Solar Energy

5. Solaire PR, LLC.

6. Happy Solar, LLC.

7. Energy Depot, LLC.

8.Ion Deed, LLC.

9. Bright Planet Solar, Inc.

10. Lisandro Quiles / Energía Solar PR., Inc.

“More than a requirement of form, The process for and obtaining a license as a contractor involves essential processes to protect consumer investments. It is, for this reason, that we are forced to issue a warning voice regarding these companies that have not complied with such requirements ”, emphasized the secretary of the DACO, Edan Rivera Rodríguez.

The DACO secretary said that “we are not questioning the quality of the services that these companies may have offered. But, the fact that they do not have a contractor’s license, in addition to being a violation of an express provision of law, makes it more difficult for the consumer to be able to recover a remedy, if a claim is made against these companies ”.

Rivera Rodríguez explained that, with regard to solar panel systems, the most common complaints that have been filed in the DACO revolve around the guarantee services of the contracted equipment; incomplete installation of systems; or poor advice resulting in a team that does not meet the needs for which the products were purchased.

“The acquisition of solar panel systems represents a strong investment. That is why it is of vital importance that the consumer is oriented, that he asks for references, that he makes sure that the company he is interested in hiring has an active license, and that he does not have a pattern of complaints against him ”, stressed the secretary.

The official urged companies that have not complied with the requirements that apply to them, to go to the regional office that is most convenient for them, to be able to assist them. “They are simple and low-cost processes, which can be carried out even through our Internet platform,” he said.
