That would be a very short summary of the path you have traveled League Of Legends (LoL), the video game developed by Riot Games that, year after year, is changing the rules of the game in the world of gaming.

Riot Games, the company behind the game, has been focused as an entertainment company for years, beyond its leadership in video game development. EL TIEMPO spoke with Shauna Spendley, President of Entertainment for Riot games, about the focus of the company. “We are a company that tries to put videogames as the main entertainment center for millions of people in the world,” he said. This has been translated, for example, into the development of a professional LoL circuit as an electronic sport. Events such as the LoL World Cup, the Worlds, manage to summon more than three million people around the world, year after year. In fact, the 2020 and 2019 Worlds are the second and third events of e-sports most viewed in the history of the industry.

And with the aim of continuing to break barriers, setting milestones and opening possibilities for video games in the entertainment industry, Riot Games’ commitment is, nothing more, nothing less, a series in Netflix Inspired by the LoL universe.
With only one week on the platform, Arcane has already managed to unseat the popular series The Squid Game and has risen to first place in the list of the most viewed series within Netflix. In addition, it has received the highest rating in history for Netflix original series on the IMDb platform: 9.4 out of 10.
In the animated series you can see several of LoL’s ‘champions’, such as Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce and Viktor. Plus, of course, hundreds of references to the video game universe. The history of the series takes place in the cities of Piltover and Zaun, scenes of various rivalries between families and friends.
The Tecnósfera team was present at the series premiere, held at the Riot Games offices in Los Angeles (United States).
During the event, Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, co-founders of Riot Games, told EL TIEMPO that Arcane is possible thanks to a community that has welcomed LoL in a great way for so many years, as well as being a bet that will open many doors to other video games for take their universes to streaming platforms, to television or, why not, to the big screen of the cinema.
Ella Purnell, who gave life to Jinx, one of the protagonists, with her voice, pointed out precisely that Arcane manages to be very immersive, as if it were a video game, but that tells a story that is well complemented with details.
The fact that a series is inspired by a video game speaks very well of the potential that the gaming in the entertainment industry. Being highly developed universes and which, in addition, already have, in most cases, the approval of a mass audience, they are attractive bets to take into the narratives of series and movies.

Just as successful books were once brought to the big screen, we are at a time in entertainment history when successful video games will begin to become television, film or streaming productions. And it is that all these video games have several things in common: a very complete and wide universe that has fallen in love with gamers, some characters who deserve to have their story told and a community that supports them.
