VIVA Show business – The issue of song royalties seems to never end for musicians in Indonesia. After the Dewa 19 song’s royalty issue sparked a feud between Ahmad Dhani and Once Mekel, now it’s Piyu Padi’s turn to ban Ari Lasso from performing his song. What it is?

In fact, this song brought success to Ari Lasso as a soloist in the Indonesian music scene after leaving Dewa 19. Unfortunately, Piyu Padi admits that he does not want Ari Lasso to sing this song in 2023. Apparently, the reason is simple: the fees are incommensurable.
“So what’s the point of singing this song? In the end, I didn’t get anything. Because there is no longer any economic benefit for me,” Piyu said, quoted from Youtube, on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
A Youtube video clip shows Piyu also talking about royalties with Ahmad Dhani. As a fellow musician, this Surabaya-based guitarist admits that the fee for his work is very low.
“From the very beginning, the fee for (the song) Guardian of the Heart was only 130,000 Indonesian rupees,” Piyu bluntly admitted.
Meanwhile, royalties refer to the income that will be received by intellectual property rights holders, in this case songwriters, from other parties who use or use it in accordance with the policy. The payment of royalties is governed by policy in the form of the Copyright Law No. 28 of 2014.
However, Piyu feels that this policy has failed to bring him benefits comparable to his creations. Piyu argues that there may be an imbalance between event organizers reporting LMKN (National Collective Management Institute) in Kemenkumham. Despite this, Piyu explained that his ban on Ahri Lasso was carried out by accident.
“I’m simple, Dan (Ahmad Dhani), just talk to me. “So (Ari Lasso), why don’t you sing the Guardian of the Heart song again,” the 50-year-old musician recalled. .
Previously, Once Mekel and Ahmad Dhani finally met after being busy with royalties from songs they wrote and performed. On this occasion, Mekel once even promised not to sing Ahmad Dhani’s Dewa 19 anymore.
At a meeting held at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) in Kuningan, Jakarta, Onse Mekel stressed that he did not want further conflict between himself and Ahmad Dhani. For this reason, Onse Mekel emphasized that he would not sing Ahmad Dhani’s song again for an indefinite period of time.
“I will no longer perform Dhani songs either alone or with Deva for an indefinite period of time,” Mekel once said, quoted from a video clip on Tiktok on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
Going deeper, singer Dilova stressed that her decision was not based on the Ahmad Dhani ban law. However, Once stated that the decision was made in order to restore good relations with Ahmad Dhani.
