Abigail Breslin revealed that she is a survivor of domestic violence. The ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ actress explained that she was in an abusive relationship for two years and it left her feeling like she deserved very little from her.
The 26-year-old actress shared her story on Instagram for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
‘As a survivor of domestic violence I felt compelled to write a bit about my story. I was in a very abusive relationship for almost two years. It all started off perfectly, I was so in love. Unfortunately, my abuser took advantage of my innocence and naivety, and the relationship subsequently turned violent. I was regularly beaten, locked in rooms, and forced to pretend everything was fine and normal while dealing with intense injuries, injuries that most people wouldn’t want to see,” he wrote on social media.
He revealed that the injuries were also accompanied by humiliation, shame and verbal abuse, a situation that made the actress feel unlovable. She felt ugly and hated and she was sure there was something wrong with her.
Breslin thanked her friends and family who supported her through her ordeal.
‘These two years were the loneliest I have ever felt. I am beyond grateful for the support of my family and friends who played an invaluable and essential role in helping me get out of this horrible situation. I will always be indebted to those closest to me. to me for them not only helping me but, BELIEVING ME ‘, she embodied in her post.
Abigail Breslin revealed that she is now in a healthy, happy and amazing relationship with her fiancé. She said her PTSD is much better than it was in the first two years after her abusive relationship, although she acknowledged that she has some stressful moments and nightmares from time to time. She said that she is still in recovery.
