CALHOUN, Ga. – Authorities say three individuals were killed and two more were injured in a fiery crash involving many vehicles and semi-trailers on the road connecting Atlanta to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Tuesday morning’s incident stopped all southbound lanes.
The incident happened on Interstate 75 near Calhoun, Georgia, according to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.
A semi-trailer traveling north on the interstate collided with an automobile, causing the truck to cross the median into the southbound lanes, according to Georgia State Patrol. According to the agency, this resulted in collisions with two additional semi-trucks, an automobile, and a pickup truck. The pickup started on fire.
According to the state patrol, six automobiles were involved, and three individuals were killed in all. The two injured people were transferred to the hospitals. Their circumstances were not immediately released.
One semi was crumpled in a ditch, while another was partially off the highway, according to video from local news sites.
The names of those slain and maimed were not made public.
The incident occurred two days after two people were killed on Mother’s Day Sunday on I-75, just 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Tuesday’s wreck.
