GARDEN CITY, Kan.- A 16-year-old girl and three children were transported to the hospital when a car and a lorry crashed in Garden City on Wednesday.
The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. at U.S. 50 and Campus Drive. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Chrysler Sebring was driving north on Campus Drive when it entered the intersection to turn left onto westbound US 50.
An eastbound tractor-trailer began braking 110 feet west of the intersection. The two automobiles collided in the eastbound lanes.
The Holcomb teen driving the Chrysler and her 13-year-old front-seat passenger had minor injuries. According to the patrol’s online crash log, two back passengers, a 2-year-old child and a 5-year-old boy, were not strapped and may have sustained significant injuries. All four were sent to a local hospital.
The semi driver, a 42-year-old Lubbock, Texas man, was not injured.
KHP Technical Trooper Anthony Calderon stated that the semi had the right of way.
